The Xiaomi YU7 SUV: Xiaomi Aims to Reshape the SUV Market Debuts This Week

Xiaomi YU7 SUV

About one year after first learning about the electric vehicle newcomer Xiaomi Automobile’s plan to build an SUV, which we have come to associate with the YU7, the firm is set to unveil this new model in China. This vehicle, which is poised to directly compete with the Tesla Model Y, holds the promise of reshaping the all-electric SUV scene in the Chinese market.

Considering the amazing success and fast growth Xiaomi Automobile has seen in only four years since the Chinese smartphone maker announced plans to enter the production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is quite astounding. Its flagship model, the SU7 sedan, launched in 2024 and delivered an astounding 200,000 consumer units in only 119 days, accounting for a major portion of this early market impact.

Xiaomi revealed its plans for a second model, an all-electric SUV meant to challenge the Tesla Model Y in China, soon after the SU7 first appeared. The first spy photographs of the SUV appeared in June 2024, and it was formally named the Xiaomi YU7 SUV in December. Apart from a few photographs, information on the YU7 has been limited.

However, following the naming announcement in December 2024, some important SUV characteristics were shown in a regulatory filing in China. With a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, this filing claims the Xiaomi YU7 SUV measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. Reaching a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph), the SUV has a weight of 2,405 kg (5,302 lbs).

Front and back motors on the model described in the filing provide maximum power ratings of 220 kW and 288 kW, respectively. Though its capacity was not revealed at the time, these motors will run from a Lithium-ion ternary battery taken from CATL.

Furthermore, Xiaomi hinted that the YU7 might debut in June or July of 2025. A Weibo post from the developing car company has recently verified that the new SUV will be formally introduced this week.
