Reestablishing its once-young-focused Scion brand, Toyota has surprised few by positioning it as a powerful off-road side-by-side vehicle instead of a small automobile. Indicating Toyota’s foray into off-road mobility and electric performance, the newly unveiled Scion 01 Concept made its debut at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Marketed to younger consumers, the original Scion brand, active between 2003 and 2016, was famous for its inexpensive hatchbacks and coupes.

Conversely, the Scion 01 is more about rough terrain, great leverage performance, and hybrid engineering than it is about budget-urban mobility. Toyota says the initiative provides a chance to “combine what we do best with the passions that drive us.” Powertrain: Derived from Toyota’s truck and SUV powertrain architecture, namely the turbocharged four-cylinder plus hybrid assistance, the Scion 01 includes a hybrid arrangement.
With torque statistics in excess of 460 lb-ft reported by some sources, output is said to reach 300 horsepower. One notable feature is an electric-only mode (Silent Mode) that allows the machine to run quietly on paths before the combustion engine starts. Constructed from scratch, the side-by-side boasts an FIA-compliant roll cage appropriate for both SCORE and FIA off-road racing requirements.

Targeting high-speed desert runs, rock crawling, and multi-day trail excursions, Toyota claims the vehicle is made to “surpass current SxS goods in power, capability, and range.” Although Toyota claims this is more of an engineering experiment than a production assurance, the resurrection of the Scion name in this style shows the company is charting new ground, literally and figuratively.

This opens the door for Toyota to join the fast-expanding off-road side-by-side (SxS) sector, combining hybrid technology and brand innovation. No formal production schedule or price information has been disclosed yet. Toyota is given the freedom to assess reaction and improve the package before fully manufacturing it with the help of the Scion 01.
