Tesla Unveils Model YL: A Larger 6-Seater SUV Arrives This Fall

Tesla Unveiles model YL

The new Model YL from Tesla, a bigger 6-seater variant of the Model Y with a longer wheelbase, is scheduled to debut in China this autumn. Last month, hacker Green first noted this revised Tesla Model Y. Tesla declared official Tesla Model YL availability on China’s Weibo today, thereby confirming its arrival this fall.

Though it won’t be ready until fall, Tesla seems to have decided to announce the new model today, as it was officially recorded on the website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for regulatory clearance.

The distinctions between the new Tesla Model Y released earlier this year and the future Tesla Model YL are shown in the table below. As shown, the new Model YL is somewhat longer, about 180mm, or 7 inches, and 24mm, or roughly an inch taller. The wheelbase has also been increased by 150 mm or almost 6 inches.Over the past few months, China has seen the launch of numerous all-electric third-row SUVs; this trend seems to be a reaction to it. Most especially, launched at a very affordable price compared to the Tesla Model Y recently, the Onvo L90. Including LG battery cells and being larger than the current Model Y, the Tesla Model YL is expected to cost roughly $50,000 in China. The Onvo L90, by contrast, begins at around $39,000. Tesla should think about targeting the lower market sector with the Tesla Model Y rather than moving upmarket if it wants to stop its falling sales in China like earlier Q2 2025 sales figures.
