Following a long time of great enthusiasm and much anticipation, the debut of Tesla’s Robotaxi in Austin expansion happened with the spectacle many had expected. Just approximately ten cars were present, each under human monitors, operating within a GPS-restricted area instead of seeing a fleet of vehicles running autonomously. Still, Tesla is making changes, starting with a somewhat unusual-looking fresh coverage map.
The small few people now enrolled in Tesla’s Robotaxi Beta program should anticipate a fresh upgrade in their Robotax application. This update, known as version 25.7.5 (6031), brings several upgrades. It currently provides walking directions to both the ultimate location and the pickup point. It also lets users change their destination after a reservation. Additionally, it alerts visitors if a site is scheduled to close near the date of arrival.

The updated coverage map in Tesla Robotaxi, which is clearly a conversation starter, is possibly the most interesting feature of this upgrade. Usually, maps are not especially remarkable outside of their basic function. This one, though, is remarkably amusing in form, like a ball-peen hammer but with much gentler curves. Actually, numerous internet commenters have jokingly commented on its design, which prompted Tesla CEO Elon Musk to reply to one of such comments with a basic chef’s kiss meme. (Source: Auto News)
Elon Musk’s personal impact on the map’s design remains unknown; it could be just happenstance. The names of Tesla’s models, specifically S, 3, X, and Y, as well as many other aspects of its branding, are renowned for their amusing puns or deft references. Musk likes such connections; therefore, this map surely seems to be one he would support even if it’s just for kicks. Having said that, it seems very pragmatic and demonstrates lessons of Tesla’s unique strategy for innovation.
Tesla presently services North Austin, Tech Ridge, Westover Hills, Georgian Acres, Crestview, and other regions not covered by Waymo. Of course, there are some places like Tarrytown that continue beyond the range of the brand. In essence, Austin residents presently have much wider coverage for Tesla Robotaxi throughout the city.
