New Jeep Cherokee Redesigned with Hybrid Powertrain to Boost Stellantis Sales

Following six straight years of falling yearly sales, Jeep is unveiling a new redesigned model. Unveiled on Thursday, the Stellantis car company presented a new Jeep Cherokee, demonstrating a major effort to boost sales. The Stellantis vehicle in North America is the very first one Jeep Hybrid system.

The redesign of the 2026 Jeep Cherokee seeks to capture the essence of the iconic Cherokee SUV brand, which has been a part of the company’s legacy for many years. Under the direction of former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, Jeep had previously stopped manufacturing this model in 2023 as part of several cost-cutting efforts.

On Thursday, the model revealed Stellantis’s new 1.6-liter turbo-four hybrid system offers over 500 miles on a single tank of gasoline. The Stellantis Jeep Cherokee will have a technologically-filled interior including Stellantis’s new Connect One services package, according to the company. “Hybrid was the perfect piece to round out the rest of our portfolio,” stated Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf during an interview with CNBC’s Phil LeBeau on Friday morning.

With a 30% rise in cargo capacity, the 2026 Stellantis Jeep Cherokee, which the company contends is longer, higher, and wider than the last Cherokee, also enhances its space. Starting at $36,995, the base model for 2026 includes a destination fee of $1,995. The cars that are expected to be available in the dealerships by the end of this year or maybe the beginning of next year are being produced at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico

Jeep is looking to revive its sales in the middle of a long downturn for the company, hence this news comes. Stellantis is also battling obstacles brought on by the end in-car software partnership with Amazon and President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which are anticipated to have a full-year impact of 1.5 billion euros, or $1.74 billion, within the framework of a six-year Jeep sales decrease.
