Mercedes-Benz Electric Car Sales Accelerate Again

Mercedes-Benz EV sales have reversed a worrying trend; after six quarters of decreasing sales, the manufacturer reported growth in Q3 2025. Driven by fresh model introductions and enhanced supply, the turnaround points to fresh vigor in its electrification approach.

Mercedes sold 51,200 battery electric cars (BEVs) through its divisions from July to September, a 9% rise over the same period last year. This represents an amazing 22% rise quarter-on-quarter. Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 42,600 BEVs in the premium car sector in the quarter, almost comparable with Q3 2024 but up considerably from Q2.

Still, the picture is more varied for the year-to-date. Total BEV sales remain down 7% year-on-year at 138,600 units, mirroring a poor first half that Mercedes is working to overcome. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), meanwhile, maintained a significant contribution, increasing total ‘xEV’, combined BEV + PHEV sales by 4% year over year. Mercedes sold 441,500 passenger vehicles overall in Q3, a decrease of 12%, which gave the electric share 9.6 %.

Mercedes getting back in the game of EVs

The van sector also contributed favorably. Although total van sales decreased, electric van shipments increased 25% over Q2 to 8,600 units, 96% more than in Q3 2024. Mercedes said that around 14% of its European van sales in the quarter were electric vans. The company credited the electric CLA’s debut, better availability of important models, and strong demand for its top-tier cars for the comeback in EV sales.  The new CTO of Mercedes-Benz, Jorg Burzer, has declared a major reorganization at the top in a daring move to revitalize its executive team in the face of growing electric-vehicle transition pressures.

The company is also ready to aggressively grow the Mercedes-Benz EV line with future models, including an electric C-Class, an electric GLC set for early 2026, among other cars, and a CLA Shooting Brake. Though the Q3 results provide reason for hope, issues persist. Mercedes has to close the distance from the first half and keep expanding its EV operations to meet strict fleet emissions standards and laws. Still, the most recent statistics imply that the German brand may be getting back in the electric era.
