McLaren, long famed for its incredibly crisp two-seaters and halo hypercars, is now dipping into the SUV market. Leaks indicate the British brand is creating its first SUV, called P47, with a high-performance hybrid V8 at its core, set for debut around 2028.

Insiders claimed that a clay model of the P47 was presented to guests at a recent worldwide dealer event at McLaren’s Creation Centre in Bicester, England, sponsored. Said to be a five-seater with a strong, aerodynamic shape, the automobile rides on big 24-inch wheels.
Its dimensions have been said to draw parallels to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, albeit the SUV P47 should be a little bigger. McLaren seems to be planning precisely that.
Even though it adopts a more family-friendly style, the P47 aims to keep the DNA of the brand, low centre of gravity. A rear-mounted hybrid V8 and performance-driven engineering.
According to sources, the hybrid system is not a plug-in unit; instead, it is an electrical assistance to boost power rather than offering extended EV range only.
McLaren is planning to make a major strategic change with the brand new SUV. Highlighting the company’s hybrid technology commitment, insiders claim it fits into a larger strategy comprising a series of debuts through 2030.
Among the future models, McLaren anticipates a mid-engine hybrid V6 coupe and even a limited-run last edition of the 750S. Interestingly, McLaren still doesn’t have an all-electric supercar on the near-term horizon despite the trend toward practicality.
CEO Nick Collins has said the company is cautious; it will wait for battery and thermal technologies to mature before introducing a total EV.
Should the data be correct, the P47 could also be McLaren’s most ambitious rebirth yet, rather than only its first SUV.
A dealer told Advisorwheels News that the SUV looked “sculpted and muscular,” offering the bold road presence needed to compete in the hyper-luxury segment. For more premium performance options, check out our guide on the Best Super SUV Aston Martin.
It seems that McLaren is intent on demonstrating that an SUV may feel like a McLaren instead of minimizing its heritage as a supercar.
