Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed a number of recalls, including several Ford and Lincoln automobile alerts. Owners who want to see whether their car has been recalled can search the NHTSA’s database for any new recalls or use USA TODAY’s automotive recall database.
Additionally, the NHTSA website lets you search for recalls by vehicle identification number, or VIN. Ford Motor Company recalled certain 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Ford Edge cars because of the risk of a rear brake. Those burst and are leaking fluid.
Stellantis recalled some 2019-2021 Ram ProMaster and 2019-2020 Dodge Journey cars as these could contain a faulty rearview camera. Cracks in the camera’s computer, the NHTSA reports, might stop the rearview camera image from showing accurately. At no cost to the owners, dealers will swap the rearview camera. Notification letters should go out by September 30.
Ford also recalled some 2024 Ford Explorer and Aviator cars since the tail lights on hauled trailers might not illuminate. For cars driven fewer than 9,000 miles, dealers are advised to swap the body control module. Dealers will perform a functional check on the body control module for those with more than 9,000 miles and replace it if found to be needed.
Ford also remembered particular 2024-2025 Ford Mustang cars, as their outside headlights may malfunction. Dealers must check the body control module for any corrosion and replace it if necessary, in addition to inspecting and sealing the body seams. All repairs are free of cost.
Ford additionally recalled some 2024 and 2025 Ford Ranger trucks for the risk of the side curtain airbag tearing upon deployment. During deployment, the airbags may hit the B-pillar inner reinforcements of the car, causing tears. For free, dealers will install protective shields for the airbags. With final solution notices set to go out in December, owner notification letters are due September 8.
