As of the end of April 2025, battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) have a year-to-date market share of 15.3%, much behind by many predicted levels. Hybrid electric, on the other hand, is becoming very popular and remains the power source preferred by customers.
Until April 2025 car registration of battery-electric vehicles made up 15.3% of the market share for the entire European Union and reflected an increase from the low teardown of 12% in April 2024, which is the EU car registrations to date by power source.

Hybrid-electric cars, on the other hand, had an amazing increase, grabbing 35.3% of the market and well establishing themselves as the preferred power source of consumers of the European Union. This contrasts with the decrease of total market share for gasoline and diesel cars between the same period in 2025 and 2024, from 48.4% to 38.2%.
Battery-electric cars enjoyed an incredible surge of 26.4% in sales during the first four months of 2025 to 558,262 units, claiming 15.3% of the entire EU market share.
